INTEGRATIONS · HOME ASSISTANT
SMS to Home Assistant.
Start a Home Assistant automation each time a text message comes in. Turn on a light when a parcel SMS arrives, or show a bank code on a dashboard.
Home AssistantTarget type in the app: Webhook
How to set it up
- In Home Assistant, make a new automation. Add the trigger Webhook and copy the webhook ID.
- The webhook URL is
http://<your-home-assistant>:8123/api/webhook/<webhook-id>. - In SMS Webhook, open Targets and tap Add target. Select Webhook and paste the URL.
- Tap Send test message. The automation trace shows the test message.
- Open Rules and select the messages to send.
What Home Assistant gets
In the automation, the fields are in trigger.json, for example {{ trigger.json.otp }}.
{
"from": "AX-HDFCBK",
"contactName": "",
"body": "Your OTP for login is 834512. Do not share it.",
"otp": "834512",
"sim": "1",
"source": "sms",
"receivedAt": "2026-10-21T09:41:21.087Z",
"rule": "Bank OTPs"
}
Send only the messages that you need
Rules select the messages. Example: when the sender contains HDFC and the text has an OTP, send it to Home Assistant. A drop rule can stop promotions first. See the webhook guide for the template variables.
Notes
- By default, a webhook trigger accepts requests only from your local network. That is correct when your phone is on your home Wi-Fi. For other networks, change the setting in the trigger options, or use Home Assistant Cloud or a VPN.
- Use a long, random webhook ID. Anyone who knows the ID can start the automation.
