SMS Webhook

FAQ

Questions and answers.

What does SMS Webhook do?

It sends incoming SMS and RCS chats from your Android phone to webhooks, Telegram, Discord, Slack, ntfy and other services. Rules select the messages. Scripts and AI apps can also read your messages through a local HTTP API and an MCP server.

Does it work on iPhone?

No. iOS does not let apps read SMS. The app is for Android 12 and later.

Does the app send, change or delete SMS?

No. The app only reads SMS.

Does it forward RCS chats?

Yes, when you turn on chat capture. The app reads RCS chats from the notifications of Google Messages and Samsung Messages. Android 15 and later hide one-time codes in notifications from other apps, so RCS codes can arrive empty. SMS codes are not affected.

How do I forward only some messages?

Make a rule. A rule can examine the sender, the text, keywords, a regex, the contact, the SIM, the time and the one-time code. A drop rule stops messages before the app sends them.

Does it support dual SIM?

Yes. The app records the SIM slot of each message, and a rule can select SIM 1 or SIM 2.

What happens when the phone has no network?

The app keeps the message in a queue and sends it when the network comes back. It tries up to 8 times.

Where does my data go?

Only to the targets that you add. The app has no account, analytics, ads or server of ours. See the privacy policy.

How do I keep Android from stopping the app?

Set the battery use of SMS Webhook to Unrestricted in Android settings. Some phone makers stop background apps more than others.

Can I use the local API from outside my home?

Yes, with a VPN such as Tailscale. Do not open the port to the internet, because the server uses HTTP.

How much does it cost?

You pay one time on Google Play. There is no subscription.
